What is the Media Center PC "Ten Foot Experience?

By MICHAEL MILLER

The "ten foot experience" is another name for the Microsoft Windows Media Center interface. It's an interface designed to be seen and operated from ten feet away, in contrast to the regular Windows interface, which is a "ten inch" experience. With the Media Center ten foot experience, you can connect your PC to your living room TV and operate it from the comfort of your living room couch.

What do I need to buy so I can get the "ten foot experience?"

The "ten foot experience" is obtained when your PC is running the Windows Media Center interface. You can't buy Media Center separately; you have to purchase a computer that includes the Media Center interface. Such a computer is a called a Media Center PC, and typically comes with a handheld remote control you use to operate the PC from across your living room. You'll then need to connect the Media Center PC to your living room TV and entertainment system, which you do with the appropriate audio and video cables.
