What is a Media Center Extender?

By MICHAEL MILLER

A Media Center Extender is a device that connects to any television or audio system and streams music and videos from a Media Center PC, over your home network.

You use a Media Center Extender to play back all the digital entertainment stored on your main PC, using the Windows Media Center ten-foot interface.

While freestanding Media Center Extender units are available from Linksys and other manufacturers, you can also use Microsoft's Xbox 360 videogame console as a Media Center Extender.
