Another type of portable music player offers more storage and versatility than the smaller micro players. So-called mini players are larger than their micro cousins, but are still small and thin enough to fit in a shirt pocket. These players offer more storage (anywhere from 1GB to 8GB) and the ability to dial up specific songs and playlists. They also feature black and white or color displays, to better view song info and graphics.

Some of these mini players, like the iPod Nano, use flash memory storage. Others, like the Creative Zen Micro, store their music on miniature hard drives. Battery life typically runs in the 12-hour range, and prices typically run from $150 to $250.
