Downloading Music from a File Trading Network

Some users like to download music from file trading networks, which offer lots of music for free. There are some big problems with this approach, however.
First, much of the music offered over these file trading networks isn't officially licensed. These files are typically ripped from CDs and uploaded by individual users, without the authorization of the artist or record label, and without the artist being paid for its use. When you download music from these networks, you may be doing so illegally.
Also, these file trading networks are breeding grounds for spyware and computer viruses. You may think you're downloading the latest hit from Madonna, but in fact you could be downloading a computer virus instead.
It's not uncommon for heavy file traders to have their computers slow down and ultimately quit working, due to all the files that infect their systems. If you use one of these networks, make sure your PC has strong anti-spyware and anti-virus protection.
These risks, fortunately, are unique to file trading networks. If you download from a reputable online music store or subscription service, you don't face these issues.
Files downloaded from the iTunes Music Store or AOL Now are legal and free from spyware and viruses.
